I, Lukhanyo Mlanzeli. The Founder and Pastor of a church organization and congregation formally named True Worshipers in the Church of God took a self-initiative to start a soccer club in my community to assist and guide the young boys and young men of the society that I’m currently residing in by give them life skills and sporting skills in a fun and self-recreational manner. Thus keeping them away from things that are destructive and are destroying the youth of today…Things such as substance and alcohol abuse and being exposed to crime at a young age due to poverty and idle hands. This initiative also gives the youth of my community a chance at a sporting future and career as the club develops and expends its reach and expertise in sport.

The football club was founded on the year of 2019 in the month of September. It consisted of only one age group which was the boys under 11 squad but as the months went by the group of boys who are now currently are part members of the football club allowed us to extend and have another age group which is the boys under 17 soccer squad. We initially only registered on the club on the 9 of September in the year of 2020 for formality purposes and to be able to apply for sponsorship as we didn’t even have a soccer kit for the teams. We however managed to acquire our first sponsorship from an organization named Helping Those in Need who’s directors are Matthew and Marion Peake, who kindly sponsored us with our two teams first soccer match game kits. Its very hard to acquire any form of sponsorship for our soccer club because the area it is situated in and the club is based in a rural area called Nxarhuni but now known as Newlands as it is a developing location.

The club has had many expansions from the time it was started and formally founded and the registered and we have had new members join the club who allowed us to also create a netball club for the girls as well. From the 14 of September of 2020,we were blessed by a new sponsorship from a man as a silent and private investor who assisted us with 2 new soccer kits and 2 soccer balls for training and match day,a netball kit for the girls team.The girls sport department is newly formed and has not much members but is a new development in the club which in the future will require us to have a sport academy to help us cover all sporting codes, from soccer to rugby to netball and hockey and cricket. The players and members of our current squads are very eager to please and learn and have won most of their matches that were played in local tournaments and local friendly matches, both boys soccer clubs and the girls netball squad. Although currently our main focus is still the boys football club because it is very active and interactive with local soccer clubs.

I, the founder of Uhuru football club started this initiative because of the talent that I saw in this youth and the help I’m offering the community by grooming, teaching and coaching them both on and off the field as a man of God. Giving them hope for a better future and teaching them life skills and discipline and introducing them to God, our Lord Jesus Christ by His word that can help and lead a person’s life to their best life and to eternal life in the Lord Jesus our saviour of our salvation. We are developing and need much assistance and forms of sponsorships from funding to assistance of getting transport vehicles i.e a small minibus to training gear and equipment plus track suites for the clubs and a well situated soccer field with grand stands for our spectators and supporters as we currently don’t have any and we are participating and playing but lacking such crucial sporting elements.

Our doors are always open and so is our player’s hearts. As we do before every game that we participate in and that is to first open our hearts to God by praying and sharing the word and wisdom of the Lord Jesus Christ from the bible and close by prayer. We believe that God is with us and we will grow and expend and be a great positive aspect of our community and may God help us to do so. Thank you all and be blessed.
